Our Guide to the Top Cbeebies Characters

Any parent of a pre-school child loves Cbeebies. Education, entertainment and a little bit of babysitting (while you're cleaning the oven) all rolled up into one bright, colourful and cheerful TV station.

Here's our guide to the top characters - and the worst...

1. Andy – Presenter
Mothers’ eye candy on Cbeebies now that Sid has left (sigh). And mums in the know *taps nose* have fond memories of the time he read out the birthday cards in a VERY snug space suit…

2. Archie – Balamory
Makes the list mainly because actor/comedian Miles Jupp is a favourite of East Herts Parenting Daily. But as well as being the least annoying of the Balamory Crew, he once did this…

3. Charlie – Charlie & Lola
The long-suffering, put-upon brother of that spoilt brat Lola. Where are the parents?!

4. Justin Fletcher – Something Special, Gigglebiz, Justin’s House
The king of kids TV. ‘Nuff said.

5. Nina – Nina & The Neurons
Totally rocks pigtails, white lab coat, jeans and boots. Educating our kids whilst keeping the dads happy too.

6. Tom – Tree Fu Tom
If you’ve never leapt around the lounge doing the Tree Fu moves, you’re not a proper parent.

7. Tang – Zingzillas
The coolest of the Zingzillas (although DJ Loose comes a close second). Think Mani from The Stone Roses minus the floral shirts (and the narcotics). The only member of the band not to panic as they get nearer to The Big Zing.

8. Rastamouse
What’s not to like? He “makes bad tings good” AND he’s played Glastonbury. Take THAT, Mister Maker.



… and speaking of which, here’s our top 6 WORST Cbeebies characters:-

1. Mister Maker – Mister Maker
The theme tune fills parents with terror, in the knowledge that their kids will be begging their parents to help them make a dinosaur out a plastic bowl and some scrunched-up newspaper.

2. Lola – Charlie & Lola
Total brat. See Charlie, above.

3. Dee – Justin’s House
Seriously, calm down dear.

4. Chris & Poy – Show Me, Show Me
Show me, show me how to rid my TV of these awful people.

5. Zak – Zingzillas
Nowhere near as cool as he thinks he is. Also has a worrying tendency to eat bananas in his sleep.

6. Tiny Tumble – Tiny Tumble
We LOVE Mister Tumble. But this is a brand extension too far.
