If you live in the East Herts area and
haven’t yet been to Paradise Wildlife Park in Broxbourne, what have you been
doing?!!
The Park is an amazing place to visit, and
is open every day of the year, with the exception of Christmas Day. Tickets are
reasonably priced at between £14 and £19 for adults and £9 and £16 for
kids/senior citizens (depending on the season), but good discounts are
available by booking online.
And you can easily spend a full (long) day
at the Park. Of course, there are the animals. PWP has a huge collection of
over 400 animals, with the big cats being the major attraction. They include
white tigers, white lions, snow leopards, cheetahs, leopards and more, and you
won’t believe how close you can get to them. If you have young children, I’d
advise keeping away from the enclosures near to feeding times, though. They may
not be keen on seeing half-eaten animal limbs littered around the cage
(although my son thought it was “awesome”…).
You must make sure to visit the red panda
enclosure, but be prepared to ‘ahh’ yourself until it hurts.
The reptile house will appeal to those who
want to check out various snakes, alligators and dragon-type creature (not so
keen myself).
And the bat house won’t disappoint if you
enjoy watching strange-looking, noisy creatures hanging from the ceiling
(ditto).
The penguins are super cute though, as are
the meerkats, and you shouldn’t miss out the farmyard animals, particularly if
you have younger children.
But Paradise Wildlife Park is about so much
more than the animals. There’s a huge adventure play area (well, officially,
three different adventure parks), soft play centre, a woodland walk, dance
& magic shows, a paddling pool, kids stage shows, pedal cars, a woodland
train, face-painting and more.
The only thing that’s a slight negative, in
my opinion, is that there’s also an area full of coin-operated ride-ons, etc.
If I’ve spent money on getting into the Park, lunch, etc I begrudge being put in
a situation where I’m battling with my son about a £1 Simpsons ride on top of that
outlay.
But that’s just a tiny thing. The Park is
fantastic and worth a visit whether you have kids or not. Definitely
recommended.
